At What Age Should AI Education Start?
It is wrong to say “the earlier, the better” about AI education. An age appropriate method, a screen policy and a concrete result have to be considered together.

At what age should AI education start? According to the Zekaland approach in Alanya, a meaningful start is age 6, but at this age the programme must be completely screen free. At ages 7 to 10, 11 to 14 and 15 to 17, the tools and results change. A model of “the earlier the screen, the better” does not suit child development.
The short answer (a summary box)
| Age | A suitable start | Screen |
|---|---|---|
| 6 | Play, movement, ordering, “thinking like a robot” | None (screen free) |
| 7 to 10 | Games and projects with visual blocks | Controlled |
| 11 to 14 | Mobile apps and simple ML | Controlled |
| 15 to 17 | Python and a real project | Controlled |
This table is not a “guaranteed order”. It should be read together with your child’s interest, reading ability and attention span.
Age 6: why screen free?
At six, the aim is not to write code. It is to build foundations such as thinking step by step, a liking for debugging and patience, through play. Screen free AI education lets a child live ideas with their body and their voice. At Zekaland, this level is offered as AI education for children.
7 to 10 and 11 to 14: moving on to making
From about seven, visual block programming can take a child from “someone who plays games” to “someone who makes them”. Around eleven, mobile apps and more concrete products start to make sense. For the detailed programmes, see software education in Alanya and mobile app education in Alanya.
15 to 17: a real project
For a student approaching the end of high school, a real language (for example Python) and an end of term project goal last longer than the feeling of “I watched a course”. See high school software education.
Frequently asked questions
Is an AI course necessary at age 5?
No. There is no required “AI course” for five year olds. Play, stories and curiosity are already a strong foundation. If a programme is offered, it should be fully age appropriate and screen free.
Does starting early put a child ahead?
Early screen intensity is not an advantage. Early good method is an advantage: curiosity, being at peace with mistakes and the courage to make things.
Is it face to face in Alanya, or online?
Zekaland works face to face in Alanya. The local rhythm (school hours, the summer season) differs from online only camps. The general frame: AI school in Alanya guide.
In short
The age to start AI education is not one magic number. A screen free start at age 6 is the safe door Zekaland suggests. At later ages the tool changes and the aim stays the same: to make, not to consume. To talk about the right level, the enrolment application is free.
